Tiara slept peacefully when she got back in from her visit with Marquis. She told herself that she was going to call her parents to see if they would be willing to help her with the baby and she planned to follow through. She picked up her cell phone and instantly her hand started to shake. She realized then how afraid she was of their rejection. She gathered enough courage and dialed the number. Her father answered on the first ring.
“Hello,” her father answered in a skeptical voice because he didn’t recognize the phone number. He repeated himself again because Tiara was hesitant to respond. “Hello.”
“Dad!” she blurted out before he could hang up the phone. Her voice sounded like that of a child.
“Tiara, is that you?”
“Yes.”
“Oh baby, how are you? Your mother and I have been worried sick about you!” Her father spoke with so much concern in his voice that it brought tears to Tiara’s eyes.
She told her father that she had been fine and was trying to get herself together. She told him all about her classes at school, but she was putting it off to go back to work because she wanted to provide for herself.
“I’m proud of you baby! That’s all me and your mother wanted you to do. I admit we were wrong for thinking of taking J.C. from you, but Tiara you were making so many bad decisions and we didn’t want it to affect him.”
“I understand.” She told him that she needed his help with the baby while she went back to work and she didn’t want to put J.C. in daycare. “I was wondering if you and Mom would be willing to watch the baby for me.” She hoped he would say yes.
“Tiara if you are working on getting yourself together, nothing would make me happier. I know your mother would love to see both of you. She cried herself to sleep a few nights from missing you. You’re her only child.”
“I miss you both too,” Tiara spoke sadly. She hated that she had let things get this far. She promised herself that she would do better and stop making hasty decisions that affected her and the baby. Before she disconnected the call, she promised her father that she would call more often and spend more time with them. She was glad she made the call and she felt more excited about going back to work, especially since she wouldn’t have to worry about J.C.’s safety at some strange daycare now.
She sent Marquis a text and told him to have a good day at work and that she would call him later.
